In our fourth campaign for National Express and their agency One Black Bear, we moved across to a brand commercial style to build and drive brand awareness whilst positioning modern coach travel as a great method of public transport.
The concept devised by One Black Bear was ‘Take a Different View’, an interesting double entendre which addresses potential misconceptions of coach travel as well as the physical vantage points coach travel allows its passengers as it moves up and down the country.
Shot over 2 days, with director Alex Turner and DOP Bob Pendar-Hughes, we were sure that the results would be nothing short of spectacular. The shoot consisted of a first day shooting all the on board shots inside the coach and a second day shooting off a tracking vehicle with a remote head set to coach window height getting the POV shots.
In post we delved into our VFX toolbox andpulled out a few tricks with a cheeky set extension, matte painting, and a urban streetscape build. Koala also handled the negotiations with Canadian band, Paper Lions to license the track ‘Travelling’ for TV, later adding the Shazam recognition element for TV broadcast.
This commercial was then delivered ready to run on ITV and YouTube programatic.
